⏹️ ▶️ John put bread in this is the one this is the bigger one looks like a toaster oven it’s expensive but let me tell

⏹️ ▶️ Marco like during the preparation of these toasts in the green room there was a lot of smoke being generally

⏹️ ▶️ John don’t know what the team is trying to do the japanese seem to be super into like having the toast be like moist and stuff but honestly if you
⏹️ ▶️ John just get bread that’s not stale and you toast it and eat it really quickly before like all the moisture goes out of it it’s fine

⏹️ ▶️ John guessing last show about what the mac pro would be like turned out to be the only time
⏹️ ▶️ John i had a little bit of hard applications when the first frame of the video showed a round thing
⏹️ ▶️ John i like oh god what have they done they
⏹️ ▶️ John, Marco were totally messing with
⏹️ ▶️ John the her that everyone has been sending me jokes about it it’s like the but that was just a hole in the case right
⏹️ ▶️ John so so yeah like they did it they did what we thought they were going to do i think most of our predictions
⏹️ ▶️ John last show were were dead on i’m very happy about it um and i
⏹️ ▶️ John think to tackle this beast we should start from the outside in and just
⏹️ ▶️ John let’s just start talking about the outside of this thing so you know size it’s a tower
⏹️ ▶️ John size wise it’s in between the trashcan and the regular mac pro but closer to the the old
⏹️ ▶️ John mac pro the chief greater aesthetically
⏹️ ▶️ John what do you to think of
⏹️ ▶️ John, Marco the the mega grater
⏹️ ▶️ Marco the design of the of the greater is optimized for softer cheeses now
⏹️ ▶️ Marco than before it is so so i got a chance to ask a lot of
⏹️ ▶️ Marco questions about it to various people in the pro studio area and i ask specifically
⏹️ ▶️ Marco like are these serving some these new holes that are these weird kind of like alien i like larger holes
⏹️ ▶️ Marco with little sub holes that are curved in and do they serve some kind of you know cooling physical function
⏹️ ▶️ Marco or they just design and i was told they do serve functions of you know reducing noise letting in a whole bunch of air and
⏹️ ▶️ Marco everything so they do seem be to be there for a reason i can say that it is quite a striking
⏹️ ▶️ Marco look in person not a hundred percent in a positive way but the reality is like with
⏹️ ▶️ Marco this machine where they went wrong with the trash can the twenty thirteen macro
⏹️ ▶️ Marco is they optimized for good looks and for many of their other machines
⏹️ ▶️ Marco that’s that’s the right trade off but not the mac pro and that ended up being its downfall among
⏹️ ▶️ Marco other things but this machine they have done what we all wanted
⏹️ ▶️ Marco they have put like slim ness and cute shapes and appearance
⏹️ ▶️ Marco kind of on the back burner in order to achieve what the mac pro is supposed to be which is
⏹️ ▶️ Marco a big box with no thermal constraints that can handle the most powerful stuff we can throw in it and be upgradable and other
⏹️ ▶️ Marco other stuff so yeah i think it kind of looks a little bit odd it’s pretty big it’s
⏹️ ▶️ Marco it’s very similar in size i’d say to the cheese grater really it’s it’s not that much smaller they wouldn’t
⏹️ ▶️ Marco let me lift it up or ask and they wouldn’t answer how heavy it is but i think it says but it’s twenty seven pounds yeah it’s heavy
⏹️ ▶️ Marco it’s like yeah of course you already know this so like it’s like you know it’s a big

⏹️ ▶️ Marco the thermal capacity and the size and the slots and everything else so while i think a lot of people
⏹️ ▶️ Marco are criticizing the looks i don’t care because they made exactly what it needed to be yeah so let’s
⏹️ ▶️ John let’s talk about how it looks and the last show was like the can make a rectangular and you can make a rectangular solid look
⏹️ ▶️ John nice if you with surface details with neat service then they sure our service details like this is machined on both
⏹️ ▶️ John the front and the back of the thing they they mention you know obviously for air flow and lots of service area and all
⏹️ ▶️ John the other stuff and they they also mention for like structure rigidity and like are you putting a volvo
⏹️ ▶️ John upside down on your mac pro like i’m not sure why it has to be so strong but here
⏹️ ▶️ John here’s the word that came to mind even though i didn’t know this word and please everyone awnings do

⏹️ ▶️ John of all it looks looks for all the world like a cheese grayer they’re actually kitchen the grs with like a stainless steel rod is

⏹️ ▶️ John the mega greater don’t know what i’m going to call it but like if you took the the old cheese grater mac pro and rubbed
⏹️ ▶️ John it against this one the old mac pro would be graded it is
⏹️ ▶️ John seriously like it’s going to seriously grate something and the tripod angle let me just say i’ll be glad
⏹️ ▶️ John to have this under my desk but everything everything margot said is true you know cold air comes in
⏹️ ▶️ John the front hot air goes out the back lots of big lazily spinning fans tons of room for stuff
⏹️ ▶️ John which we will get to in a second and practically speaking it’s a big box and
⏹️ ▶️ John exterior design wise they won up like so the yosemite tower and the el cap tower had a door that
⏹️ ▶️ John folded down the powermac g five and and the mac pro a had a door that came off this
⏹️ ▶️ John thing the whole sleeve comes off leaving sort of the naked robotic corp allah the old
⏹️ ▶️ John you know chief or cube you can get it all sides of this thing i wonder if you could even run it like that then you
⏹️ ▶️ John wouldn’t have to have that case on it all the time anyway it is a very interesting design very practical
⏹️ ▶️ John very utilitarian they tried to make the service details interesting and they and they kind of wiggin me
⏹️ ▶️ John out a little bit but you know i won’t be looking at that part of it and also luckily i won’t have to see the
⏹️ ▶️ John back of the monitor if i buy it either which also has those sales and i know i can’t really see
⏹️ ▶️ John half the audience here but the thing you can only do live show of hands who thinks the looks of the
⏹️ ▶️ John new mac pro and monitor are like a little home ier than you would have expected not that you hate it but
⏹️ ▶️ John it’s a little home ier

⏹️ ▶️ John anyone in the room love it and think it’s the most awesome computer i like it looks wise looks wise just for the

⏹️ ▶️ John anything more to say about the outside yeah it’s got optional wheels which i think is a very clever idea it’s rack mountable which is smart
⏹️ ▶️ John it’s rectangular when that makes that easier um it’s got ports on the top instead of the back
⏹️ ▶️ John it’s got sports on the back too but it’s also got stuff on the top like the thunderbolt ports are on there and that’s where the little screw
⏹️ ▶️ John thing is he’s got stuff in the back oh what else is going on two
⏹️ ▶️ John, Marco alice is going on
⏹️ ▶️ Marco this one thing that i that i picked up that i didn’t catch from the keynote is that there
⏹️ ▶️ Marco is a usb a port and two sata ports on the inside and
⏹️ ▶️ Marco the idea here is you can add sata drives to it you can also upgrade
⏹️ ▶️ Marco and replace the ssd sticks that go into the t two very nice yep
⏹️ ▶️ John, Marco thats go so when
⏹️ ▶️ John we talk about expansion but they were very what they meant by modular is not a bunch of boxes that connect
⏹️ ▶️ John together but it is even more modular in terms of ohio than than any of the macros that came
⏹️ ▶️ John before which is nice
⏹️ ▶️ Marco yeah like they they actually want people to use those sad horse there’s no like base like what you connect to
⏹️ ▶️ Marco those has to be mounted somewhere i’d probably like just be wired to a car that goes out of the computer or something but
⏹️ ▶️ Marco it’s there if you need to use it somebody will make stuff to use it the usb a port inside is useful you if you have like
⏹️ ▶️ Marco some kind of app like maya where they still use those like hardware

⏹️ ▶️ Casey so you could take out this io board and then put in your new io board with things that have happened
⏹️ ▶️ Casey since i don’t know fifty years ago because i feel like your computer’s effectively fifty years old at this point

⏹️ ▶️ Casey yeah and so you can easily upgrade just that portion of the machine

⏹️ ▶️ John only thing you’re stuck with i guess is the ports on the top of the case which is like three thunderbolt three or something like that
⏹️ ▶️ John, Marco it’s not much but every and then the
⏹️ ▶️ John two gig yeah the two ten gig ethernet are stuck with us but everything else all the other ios is optional
⏹️ ▶️ Marco yeah and it’s like they really like if if we predicted what we did predict
⏹️ ▶️ Marco like we were trying to guess like how modular does modular mean right and we were all i think
⏹️ ▶️ Marco underestimating how modulates in this
⏹️ ▶️ John more slots than we thought when we when we go through all the things that are inside this case we got the one part right there just
⏹️ ▶️ John one i think of there’s like eight twelve and twenty eight cars i don’t know if there’s a ten corps mixed in there but
⏹️ ▶️ John, Marco there asked about
⏹️ ▶️ Marco that too now there’s i think there’s like six eight sixteen and it doesn’t matter but i asked about like you know
⏹️ ▶️ Marco what’s the deal with the c p i thought maybe they might be zone seven but i don’t think they are
⏹️ ▶️ Marco because the fact is like the they basically put like in the previous like in the imac pro and
⏹️ ▶️ Marco everything else usually you’re limited by about like a hundred and sixty t d p like the thermal limit of the
⏹️ ▶️ Marco processor that’s that’s like what the cooling and enclosure is built for and that limits like how many cores you can run
⏹️ ▶️ Marco for how at what speeds for how long you’re just limited by thermal this one they’re using
⏹️ ▶️ Marco i think a two hundred and eighty watt tdp ship and the cooling system on it is made for three hundred
⏹️ ▶️ Marco wats so they actually over provision the cooling system and they say that it can sustain
⏹️ ▶️ Marco full turbo speeds for quite a while possibly definitely i don’t know i didn’t get that
⏹️ ▶️ Marco far but like you know it’s hard to get people to nail mail things out like that but like this thing is made for
⏹️ ▶️ Marco very high thermal performance as as like number one thing so there’s tons
⏹️ ▶️ Marco of headroom as intel gets worse at making their chip road map happen and as
⏹️ ▶️ Marco their cp s keep getting hotter over time this is going to be able to handle that for a while
⏹️ ▶️ Marco and having that thermal headroom allows it to get away with not
⏹️ ▶️ Marco having two cpu sockets for most people’s needs because you can run these very high core
⏹️ ▶️ Marco count giant zeon ships in there that need massive heat dissipation and it actually works so
⏹️ ▶️ Marco given what they’ve done with the cooling and everything else i am totally fine with this being single socket
⏹️ ▶️ John yeah and i they used most of the cooling for what we didn’t expect which the huge number of other slots net there’s twelve
⏹️ ▶️ John rams ots which is a lot and you could you know put enough ram in it to buy a more expensive car

⏹️ ▶️ John there’s a lot of slots in this thing and it just makes me think who besides apple will make stuff that goes in there

⏹️ ▶️ Marco make this product by saying well we’re not going to sell this in large volume we’re going to milk every penny of the people who
