⏹️ ▶️ Casey has enabled the quality filter for everyone and as far as we can tell it’s the
⏹️ ▶️ Casey same quality filter that verified users get but i don’t think mark when i noticed
⏹️ ▶️ Casey this but we have just confirmed it i think john is the one that noticed this it is on by default
⏹️ ▶️ Casey which is super interesting and not the case for verified users so verified users who
⏹️ ▶️ Casey have not turned this on they wouldn’t have the on and and marco looked
⏹️ ▶️ Casey at the overcast account which is verified and and your quality filter is not on is that correct
⏹️ ▶️ Marco yeah basically like if if you if you had the setting before it will keep your
⏹️ ▶️ Marco setting even if you never touched it so it’s not like a like a triple state like you know one zero or no kind of thing
⏹️ ▶️ Marco where like no would just be the default it’s not that it’s actually like if you had it before and you didn’t
⏹️ ▶️ Marco say it you have it off now and it doesn’t really matter anyway so this is great news because
⏹️ ▶️ Marco this is exactly what we were complaining about last episode and last time we talked about this also why
⏹️ ▶️ Marco wouldn’t you have this available for everybody and last episode i even said like you know i’d
⏹️ ▶️ Marco even go as far as to say that this should be on by default and when i was saying that i had
⏹️ ▶️ Marco no hope that they would actually ever do this both making the making the feature
⏹️ ▶️ Marco available for everybody and also making it on by default either of those things would have shocked me so to have
⏹️ ▶️ Marco them both happen and to both happen very quickly it’s a pretty major step and first
⏹️ ▶️ Marco of all it’s a little bit of a slap in the face that like apparently there was no reason really why they
⏹️ ▶️ Marco couldn’t have done it for everybody already let’s you know
⏹️ ▶️ Marco set that aside for now we have it now so you know positive thoughts we have it now this is very good
⏹️ ▶️ Marco this is way better than i expected this is a sign that maybe maybe twitter is starting to
⏹️ ▶️ Marco take their abuse problems and their trolling problems and their just general jerkins problems
⏹️ ▶️ Marco maybe they’re starting to take that a little more seriously and you know honestly maybe not this could
⏹️ ▶️ Marco be just like an easy quick fix they just threw out there because they had it ready but even doing this
⏹️ ▶️ Marco is a big step and if it bodes well for for future steps in this direction and additional
⏹️ ▶️ Marco steps in this direction that’s good too so i i’m hopeful about it i’m kind of i’m
⏹️ ▶️ Marco a little bit reserved in that but i’m hopeful that twitter is starting to really care about this problem
⏹️ ▶️ Marco and and take steps to to improve their service for everybody and not just celebrities

⏹️ ▶️ John the verified thing is still out there like the idea that if you have an account that frequently people are impersonating
⏹️ ▶️ John you and stirring things up by tweeting things that pretend to be you that people then reach wheat and screenshot
⏹️ ▶️ John and think you said and come back you know like the whole the idea of verifying that yes this is
⏹️ ▶️ John i am really the person with this name and in this you know picture and this all these
⏹️ ▶️ John attributes that should still be open even though the quality filter is open to everybody so there’s
⏹️ ▶️ John still a ways to go that and like the quality filter it’s the type of thing where they totally could like it already
⏹️ ▶️ John the future already exists in some ways it’s easier to enable for everybody’s in some ways it’s harder because there is
⏹️ ▶️ John that human component of verifying your identity or whatever and as we said in the past you know find charge
⏹️ ▶️ John money for it or something like that but it verification continues to be the
⏹️ ▶️ John appstore of twitter where rejections don’t make any sense and no one can figure it out and it’s
⏹️ ▶️ John all mysterious like what recently the at pfm account got rejected for verification
⏹️ ▶️ John and i saw a couple other puzzling rejections but on the other hand people all the people are getting verified so
⏹️ ▶️ John if no one knows how it works um anyway that’s i guess that’s the next stepping stone and easy things twitter could
⏹️ ▶️ John have done a long time ago but didn’t
⏹️ ▶️ Marco yeah and also you know to give them credit also you know the whole verified
⏹️ ▶️ Marco status is problematic as we’ve discussed before and you know one of my core arguments about
⏹️ ▶️ Marco verified being a problem was you know it was it was more ok when it was only
⏹️ ▶️ Marco about identity verification and it starts becoming increasingly problematic
⏹️ ▶️ Marco as features or status are tied to it and so what they’ve done here is
⏹️ ▶️ Marco they’ve just removed a major feature that was exclusive to verified people before and they made
⏹️ ▶️ Marco available for everybody so it has it has taken a big chunk out of the out of the problem the problems are still there
⏹️ ▶️ Marco there are still lots of other problems with verified that as being what it is and bringing what it does and having
⏹️ ▶️ Marco this weird inconsistent you know subjective review process but removing a major
⏹️ ▶️ Marco feature of it as an exclusive and making it available to everybody is a big step in the right direction

⏹️ ▶️ John yeah i finally bought a camera and now we
⏹️ ▶️ John, Casey had some discussions about it on past
⏹️ ▶️ John shows no big surprise about the camera that we that we were talking about the camera that i had tested for
⏹️ ▶️ John a week the camera was pretty much a no brainer for me you know because like and as many
⏹️ ▶️ John people as soon as i mention camera the camera people wrote and tell me all the differences that they like and i was good to hear different people
⏹️ ▶️ John stories but what they liked about their camera some people trying to sell a microporous some people trying to sell me on the
⏹️ ▶️ John aps c fuji’s and you know the availability of lenses and how cheap they are and how good quality
⏹️ ▶️ John they are and there’s lots of different arguments on all sides but the you know the sony
⏹️ ▶️ John is the is the devil i know sort of and it has several attributes that are really like specifically in terms
⏹️ ▶️ John of first photos for action shots and how good it is at finding focus very quickly we
⏹️ ▶️ Marco should point out once again you have again failed to mention the model number it is the sony a sixty three hundred right
⏹️ ▶️ John, Casey three hundred
⏹️ ▶️ Casey on this episode i was sitting here waiting to add it to the show
⏹️ ▶️ Casey waiting and waiting and waiting
⏹️ ▶️ Casey, John and we already
⏹️ ▶️ John already and the small size because a lot of the other aps c cameras are like oh it’s also an aps c but
⏹️ ▶️ John the sony’s are really very small and that that that counts for how i want to use it as is not quite ready to
⏹️ ▶️ John sign up for the big giant camera the sony lenses are the situation is not as great as other cameras i acknowledge
⏹️ ▶️ John that and so that was my most difficult part i knew i was going to get the body i got the body without any lenses i knew i didn’t want the kit
⏹️ ▶️ John lens because i had it and it’s not great and so i had to decide what i was going to get the easiest and the first
⏹️ ▶️ John lens purchase i i got was the fifty millimeter one point
⏹️ ▶️ John eight that sony sells because i had rented that i’d used it i’d usually take pictures of people’s face people’s faces
⏹️ ▶️ John indoors with low light and i’ve gotten a lot of good pictures out of it and i really liked it and yet as many people point out fifty
⏹️ ▶️ John million years is a little bit close yet to back up a lot to get people framed the right way in
⏹️ ▶️ John indoor environment but that’s somewhat problematic but the thing is two
⏹️ ▶️ John parts of this one the sony thirty five and the other thirty five i saw were all not as good lenses
⏹️ ▶️ John as the fifty in terms of optical quality and you know if it has a stabilization in all these
⏹️ ▶️ John other things so the fifty was the you know they were not as good lenses and they cost a similar amount so you know to pay three hundred
⏹️ ▶️ John fifty dollars for a worse thirty five millimeter i’d rather spend the hundred fifty dollars on a better fifty and the second part
⏹️ ▶️ John is i like to take candid shots i don’t like post shots that much and having a little bit of extra some
⏹️ ▶️ John even indoors let’s you get a nice good head and shoulders portrait of someone
⏹️ ▶️ John you know laughing in a natural way when they don’t know you taking a picture if you’re not right in their face so i
⏹️ ▶️ John like the fifty even if it is slightly challenging in some situations and and we like the pictures that
⏹️ ▶️ John come out of it and then the next one i got and i waffled in summer a long time but i eventually pulled the
⏹️ ▶️ John trigger is the really flat twenty millimetre pancake lens nice
⏹️ ▶️ John is not a not a great lens and it’s pretty expensive for what you get but in the end i had to say
⏹️ ▶️ John look you can’t argue with the the size it makes the camera much smaller much lighter and
⏹️ ▶️ John it’s not a bad lens it’s just it’s not probably worth the money i paid for it but i got that and i also got a bunch
⏹️ ▶️ John of lens protectors which is not a thing that i had thought about before but i read a couple of articles and like oh you should always get a lens protector
⏹️ ▶️ John like you know what it is easier to clean the lens protector that is to clean the lands i imagine there if there’s dirt on lens protected
⏹️ ▶️ John it’s worse than if there’s daring land so maybe i’ll come to regret this but they’re cheap side bottom and
⏹️ ▶️ John i’m going to give that a go and i’ve been taking pictures just find trying to find excuses to take pictures with the stuff around
⏹️ ▶️ John the house and everything um i’ve been playing with the autofocus on this do you have
⏹️ ▶️ John that assigned to one of the buttons on your camera mark
⏹️ ▶️ Marco i have not assigned to a button my camera does have the eye focus i tried it for a few days up front
⏹️ ▶️ Marco that i ended up turning it off because sometimes like you know like most autofocus
⏹️ ▶️ Marco systems if you’re holding the shutter you know the trigger button down and it doesn’t have
⏹️ ▶️ Marco focus it’ll wait until it does have focus before it shoots the picture and there were a couple of instances
⏹️ ▶️ Marco where i missed a shot that i could have gotten because it had focused
⏹️ ▶️ Marco distance wise but it had not found the eye in time and it was just like a second too late finding
⏹️ ▶️ Marco the eye and that that like made mister shot so i turned it off and i haven’t experimented with it since then
⏹️ ▶️ Marco that was a long time ago and there have been a number of firmer updates since then so maybe i should try it
⏹️ ▶️ John so the mine and probably yours as well as you can adjust that of like what has priority should i take
⏹️ ▶️ John the picture when you push the button or should i not take the picture until you have focus and there’s like three or four settings in that range
⏹️ ▶️ John the extremes of the range or luck when i press the button take the picture regress of whether our focus and the other extreme is never
⏹️ ▶️ John take the picture till you are focus and the other thing with iota focus it’s weird on this camera because there’s it’s not assigned
⏹️ ▶️ John to anything by default you wouldn’t even know the future existed unless you accustom assigned it to a button and i assigned it to a button
⏹️ ▶️ John and you have to hold down so i’m half holding the shutter and then my thumb is pressing the iodo focus and
⏹️ ▶️ John if it doesn’t find an eye just like going go back to regular you know portrait thing you can tell the green circles on their
⏹️ ▶️ John face it’s like i found a face i’m going to take a picture of it but if i push down the
⏹️ ▶️ John little ought to focus thing if it doesn’t mediate find an eye then i’m like all right well forget about that but if it does immediatly find
⏹️ ▶️ John an eye and i keep that held down it will track the eyeball as the person moves is pretty amazing um and the other feature
⏹️ ▶️ John of the camera i find hilarious again yours probably hunted to is a facial
⏹️ ▶️ John recognition and ranking so you take small pictures of everyone in your family like their face looking
⏹️ ▶️ John at the camera and the camera remembers them and if you all three of them are in the frame it will prioritize
⏹️ ▶️ John them in the order that you select of who’s going to be in focus wow it’s pretty grim when you think about it it’s
⏹️ ▶️ John like sorry sorry second child you’re not as important as you have to pick in water right but if you think about it
⏹️ ▶️ John it’s actually you shouldn’t think about it in terms of take a picture of your family think about it like taking a picture of like you go on
⏹️ ▶️ John a trip to new york city you want to take a picture of your kid in new york city street it won’t accidentally grab focus on a stranger
⏹️ ▶️ John who’s walking by right it will always prioritize your kid looking at you and never accidentally grab
⏹️ ▶️ John focus on someone else so lots of cool software based features that are all really fast and really
⏹️ ▶️ John good is probably why this thing eats battery um and so yeah i really do i really am
⏹️ ▶️ John happy with the the body of the camera where the lens situations little grim probably going to rent
⏹️ ▶️ John a zoom for my wife’s vacation and if we like it we’ll probably buy it but
⏹️ ▶️ John no zooms out there are calling out to me in terms of price performance i think what i end up with
⏹️ ▶️ John is a way too expensive like that uh that seventeen or whatever it is seventeen seventy
⏹️ ▶️ John a thing that’s not a great lens but it’s very compact and very versatile
⏹️ ▶️ John and then maybe something with like a three hundred millimeter range that’s just actually a crappy camera but gives the maximum
⏹️ ▶️ John range on it i don’t know anyway i think i’ve bought enough camera crap for a while so it’s all
⏹️ ▶️ John, Tiff Arment here on my and
⏹️ ▶️ John i’ve taken pictures of mostly taking pictures of my family playing pokemon go as that’s what they do when we’re all home as they
⏹️ ▶️ John go out for a walk and capture pokemon and taking pictures in the supermarket and
⏹️ ▶️ John generally being annoying to all my kids and just trying out the camera but that’s fun i’m happy with it and like i
⏹️ ▶️ John said in three or four years old just buy a full frame camera
⏹️ ▶️ Marco yeah so a couple of notes first of all a good call on the pancake lens the twenty millimetre
⏹️ ▶️ Marco pancake i i wish that lens was available in full frame but it’s not so i can’t really
⏹️ ▶️ Marco use it but we for our five d mark twos that we’ve had as our big camera
⏹️ ▶️ Marco for a long time ever since they came out until i got this camera a couple years back when it came out we got the cannon
⏹️ ▶️ Marco forty millimetre e f pancake and that is a great lens and it’s like a hundred and fifty bucks and it’s
⏹️ ▶️ Marco a really good quality lens and it’s incredibly small and the effect that a very
⏹️ ▶️ Marco small light lens has on the way your camera feels and how just how
⏹️ ▶️ Marco how you handle it where you bring it how often you bring it it’s a massive difference and
⏹️ ▶️ Marco so i strongly suggest if anybody has has a camera that and you don’t have
⏹️ ▶️ Marco any really small like pancake or pancake like lenses just get one and try it because
⏹️ ▶️ Marco you will bring your camera more places you’ll be amazed how how much of a of a difference it makes
⏹️ ▶️ Marco if you have a cannon i think they recently made a second panic i haven’t been paying that much attention um
⏹️ ▶️ Marco i think there’s a there’s a wider angle one like somewhere in the twenties but there’s there’s the forty millimeter
⏹️ ▶️ Marco pancake that’s fantastic and whatever pain lances have become popular in the last you know
⏹️ ▶️ Marco five years or so so whatever system you have a look for the pancake lens in
⏹️ ▶️ Marco a somewhat wide focal length and use it and you’ll be you’ll be very surprised
⏹️ ▶️ Marco how good it is and and how easy it is to carry your camera in with it and in fact for that reason
⏹️ ▶️ Marco my camera like i have i have the the thirty five two point eight prime the fifty
⏹️ ▶️ Marco five one point eight and the ninety macro in the in the sony fe line and
⏹️ ▶️ Marco i almost always have the thirty five millimeter two point eight on there because it is just so small and
⏹️ ▶️ Marco it is not a pancake lens it is it is not quite that that short distance wise
⏹️ ▶️ Marco but it is it is still very small and just the difference that
⏹️ ▶️ Marco makes on how the camera feels is just immense i’ve been saying so definitely get a pancake lens if you can
⏹️ ▶️ Marco secondly i will point out also that i’m kind of surprised you picked this camera
⏹️ ▶️ Marco based on our discussions because for what for what you wanted which
⏹️ ▶️ Marco is like you you basically wanted a superzoom replacement and this isn’t that um you know sonia
⏹️ ▶️ Marco has the r x ten and there’s many other brands that have that have super somes as well many of which
⏹️ ▶️ Marco are very good and all of our listeners wrote in to say that the that might micro
⏹️ ▶️ Marco four thirds and i think some people might have pointed out fuji x for this attribute as well
⏹️ ▶️ Marco but especially micro four thirds was very good for zoom lenses because of the smaller sensors and
⏹️ ▶️ Marco therefore having been able to have smaller lenses and less complex lenses for a big zoom
⏹️ ▶️ Marco reach so i am kind of surprised you didn’t go with that for that reason all these systems have these
⏹️ ▶️ Marco different pluses of monism as as we’ve discussed micro four thirds it really excels in
⏹️ ▶️ Marco in things being generally a little bit cheaper lens being a little bit cheaper a lot a lot more lens choice because
⏹️ ▶️ Marco they’ve just been around for so long and so many different brands make the lenses for it sony really excels
⏹️ ▶️ Marco in sensor quality and recently in focus advances autofocus advances
⏹️ ▶️ Marco in merit but it’s overall it sony really especially excels in having
⏹️ ▶️ Marco really amazing sensors getting lots of megapixels with very low noise and incredible dynamic range
⏹️ ▶️ Marco being able to be captured sony just kicks butt in that area and where sony
⏹️ ▶️ Marco is falls short is some of the kind of pro e type handling
⏹️ ▶️ Marco stuff and also lens like zoom lenses in particular like sony the primes
⏹️ ▶️ Marco that are available for sony cameras especially the full frame ones are generally amazing they’re a little expensive but
⏹️ ▶️ Marco they’re generally amazing zooms have always been sony’s weak point that the sony lineup
⏹️ ▶️ Marco has had fairly mediocre zoom lenses in it most of the time there like there is now
⏹️ ▶️ Marco very recently there’s been a couple of extremely high end ones that are huge heavy and very expensive in
⏹️ ▶️ Marco the new sony g master line but basically everything below that has been really hit
⏹️ ▶️ Marco or miss mostly miss so i am a little bit surprised you picked up given all that
⏹️ ▶️ John well so like i said i looked at superzoom first before i was even considering all this like better camera
⏹️ ▶️ John thing because that’s all my wife’s thing like hey she wants a better camera right i was just like well my super zooms getting kind
⏹️ ▶️ John of old maybe look at another one and i looked at all the super zooms they were out there and they all seemed like worse
⏹️ ▶️ John overall than my camera like they were better in many ways but also worse in ways that i didn’t like either the zoom
⏹️ ▶️ John wasn’t as big or like the arc ten like the thing is gigantic to realize how big that is it is huge and again it
⏹️ ▶️ John was one of my things i didn’t want it to be too big i didn’t want to spend fifteen hundred dollars
⏹️ ▶️ John for a non interchangeable amara just seemed weird to me and a and you know
⏹️ ▶️ John i still have my panasonic it still works i can still use it but the thing that was the real convince and
⏹️ ▶️ John you know the reason i’m glad it is as i rented it and i took it for the that the one time of year i take the most pictures
⏹️ ▶️ John like i take pictures you know throughout the year probably not as much as i should but when we go on our vacation to long island
⏹️ ▶️ John i take literally thousands of pictures right that is the most pictures i take all year in the most demanding circumstances
⏹️ ▶️ John of the most different people in the most different environments and the superzoom for the waves thing you know taking pictures
⏹️ ▶️ John in the way i like i said i brought both cameras to the beach use the some a lot but by the end of the trip
⏹️ ▶️ John even when we were at the ocean i was using this camera and yet i couldn’t get up as close and it probably helps that the
⏹️ ▶️ John days that i was doing is the beach that the surf was in close so maybe it would have bee different if it was farther away but like i said
⏹️ ▶️ John i still had the other camera and even with these things zoomed out i was happier with the zoomed out pictures from this camera
⏹️ ▶️ John that i could crop with the crappy zoom lens that i rented like i didn’t rent a very expensive zoom lens like a four
⏹️ ▶️ John hundred dollars zoom lens or something um and the range on it was you know half
⏹️ ▶️ John to a third of what it is on the super zoom and still this came out ahead and as i said the reason i would
⏹️ ▶️ John get expensive cameras once you take pictures indoors without a flash with a decent camera like
⏹️ ▶️ John you can’t go back to the other way that’s i why i don’t like the whole marcos cameras it’s depressing i
⏹️ ▶️ John don’t want to think about it like and that’s why they want to go micro for the like the whole reason i’m spending money this is i want
⏹️ ▶️ John a bigger sensor that can get more light and yes that means the lenses are going to be more expensive and i could get better
⏹️ ▶️ John zoom lenses for the micro for this like this is what i want i want i want a big sensor i want
⏹️ ▶️ John pictures that i couldn’t take it with any other camera can’t take with my iphone can’t take my supersonics there’s just not
⏹️ ▶️ John enough light and this is what that gives me and can i use it for all my zoom things for that
⏹️ ▶️ John one week a year when i need zoom the answer is apparently yes like it’s a different set of compromises
⏹️ ▶️ John but i do take pictures indoors and other things when i’m on vacation and like you know the proof is in the pudding i had both cameras there
⏹️ ▶️ John i used both of them and like if you watch the ratio by the last trip to the ocean it was like i’m not even taking that one out of the

⏹️ ▶️ John just wasn’t there was an environment where i would take any pictures before i wouldn’t try my phone and i wouldn’t bring my super
⏹️ ▶️ John zoom because the superzoom is actually it’s not heavier than this but physically dimension wise it’s bigger than
⏹️ ▶️ John than this camera with the pancake lens on it right so i feel like this is a good compromise
⏹️ ▶️ John for me now and i’m sure i’ll learn a lot using it and then you know we’ll see where we go from here
⏹️ ▶️ Marco i think these days so many photographic needs are solved so well by just your eyes iphone
⏹️ ▶️ Marco and that and the progress that iphone cameras have made has been so remarkable
⏹️ ▶️ Marco but the areas that they will never be able to match stand alone cameras are
⏹️ ▶️ Marco in or areas where you just need a large advance and expensive sensor
⏹️ ▶️ Marco you know like i funds have a lot of constraints on that camera obviously size is the most obvious
⏹️ ▶️ Marco one but also cost is a big one that camera module the entire camera module has to cost what like thirty bucks as
⏹️ ▶️ Marco i forget what the component breakdowns show it has but it’s somewhere in that range like it’s it’s not a ton of
⏹️ ▶️ Marco money that goes into that and so so you have no space you have very little money
⏹️ ▶️ Marco and you have to be able to mass produce a ton of them that’s always going to be more limited than
⏹️ ▶️ Marco what you can sell in a dedicated high end camera for a thousand dollars like that and that that can
⏹️ ▶️ Marco have this big body around it and have this big sensor that’s way bigger than the phone center and this giant lens taking off the front
⏹️ ▶️ Marco of it rel you know giant relative to to phone sensors and phones are not always be able to have
⏹️ ▶️ Marco like more advanced processing and software and tricks they can do with the software
⏹️ ▶️ Marco to make up for some of these some of these shortcomings that they have in their just tiny little cheap
⏹️ ▶️ Marco optics however i think one area where they are always going to struggle against
⏹️ ▶️ Marco big cameras is in low light sensitivity and a in dynamic range a little bit too
⏹️ ▶️ Marco but but especially low light sensitivity just because that is something where the physics are just working so much against
⏹️ ▶️ Marco them and that’s probably never going to change because phones are never going to become these you know
⏹️ ▶️ Marco two inch thick things that have that have this thousand dollar sensor and amazing
⏹️ ▶️ Marco glass in front of them like the market well that’s just not where they’re going so so i i think if you’re
⏹️ ▶️ Marco going to buy a camera that is not just your phone it benefits you a lot to get one that
⏹️ ▶️ Marco is exceptionally good in low light just to really maximize like the difference and the justification
⏹️ ▶️ Marco for having a separate camera at all
⏹️ ▶️ John well again you can never say never because i always picture like a phone that’s like this you know
⏹️ ▶️ John magical thin thing where the entire back of the phone is basically one giant sensor plus this amazing computing
⏹️ ▶️ John power to somehow combine all light hitting that sensor without a lens in front of it to figure you
⏹️ ▶️ John know what i mean like light gathering the task copy i will gather all the light for you and then magic computers
⏹️ ▶️ John will figure out all the light hitting it like maybe there’s things that can tell what angle they hit the sensor out instead of just levels
⏹️ ▶️ John of light like you do have enough surface area basically for to imagine a future phone using it as
⏹️ ▶️ John yet undetermined technology where you could gather all the light hitting the back of phone and that’s plenty to have amazing the light

⏹️ ▶️ Marco you know it’s falling behind on a lot of the tech areas now but um when you get a really high end
⏹️ ▶️ Marco full frame professional grade camera it lasts similar you know similar to john mac pro which
⏹️ ▶️ Marco is at the same age actually but anyway the
⏹️ ▶️ Marco thing with sars though is you know yeah they are really big like you you can’t just casually throw
⏹️ ▶️ Marco a full frame slr into your back like that you you got to really decide to
⏹️ ▶️ Marco take that with you you know they’re they’re big they wail out the lenses are big they weigh a lot i didn’t
⏹️ ▶️ Marco i wasn’t that convinced that the size difference would matter that much until i lived with the
⏹️ ▶️ Marco sony for a little while and then i picked up tips camera to do something with one time and i was
⏹️ ▶️ Marco like oh my god like it felt like i was picking up an aircraft carrier like what is this thing like what
⏹️ ▶️ Marco how did i possibly use the this for that long and uh but that being said
⏹️ ▶️ Marco though there are still differences and mainly
⏹️ ▶️ Marco while the while the merriest cameras have all the action going with a lot of the tech advances these days
⏹️ ▶️ Marco and in particular a lot of the lens advancements these days i would still hesitate to call them
⏹️ ▶️ Marco professional cameras because you know pro obviously it’s a very loaded word in a lot
⏹️ ▶️ Marco of markets and it is mostly used for marketing in most places and it
⏹️ ▶️ Marco goes both ways you know companies put pro on put the name pro on things that aren’t
⏹️ ▶️ Marco necessarily quote professional grade and a lot of people who aren’t professionals buy pro gear
⏹️ ▶️ Marco aspirational and so there’s a lot of like agar in what that
⏹️ ▶️ Marco means however uh when you’re when you’re shooting things with a pro camera
⏹️ ▶️ Marco you need certain attributes that i don’t think any of the marilou vendors offer
⏹️ ▶️ Marco certainly sony doesn’t offer him first of all you need the battery to not be as much of a problem as it is i
⏹️ ▶️ Marco mean like that’s number one with the sony’s is they are awesome in so many ways but the battery life is terrible
⏹️ ▶️ Marco and and part of that is because you have to drive this lcd screen in the viewfinder and
⏹️ ▶️ Marco in the in the back display so often you know and and s sl rs get away with only having
⏹️ ▶️ Marco the the back review screen and having optical viewfinders so you don’t really you know you sing through the lens you’re not lighting
⏹️ ▶️ Marco up a screen for all that looking time
⏹️ ▶️ John i think i recall seeing like a battery case for your phone or for somebody’s phone have you
⏹️ ▶️ John seen those things through the camera you mean yeah like it’s just
⏹️ ▶️ Marco a big big giant battery yeah i mean there’s battery grips and and they they basically like they like shove
⏹️ ▶️ Marco this protrusion into the battery port and have this big bass in the camera that usually holds two or three battery and
⏹️ ▶️ Marco that’s you know that that’s something it obviously makes this camera a lot larger and heavier and that produces
⏹️ ▶️ Marco a lot of the advantages it has over but also you know slrs are just larger in general
⏹️ ▶️ Marco so sla batteries can be physically larger they can have way more capacity and on top of all that they’re you know they’re they’re

⏹️ ▶️ Casey charge once a month and and even when i was at the beach snapping a ton of pictures

⏹️ ▶️ John of pictures like i would always bring have a spare battery i always bring the spare battery to the beach with me with my panasonic and i
⏹️ ▶️ John never needed to use it i think maybe one year because i forgot the charger of at night the night before i needed to use it right
⏹️ ▶️ John for the sony its number was lower on deeper view like it was it’s like it wasn’t that bad but it was lower
⏹️ ▶️ John and i was like i looked at the physical size of the battery i’m like really this looks so small because the battery is physically smaller than
⏹️ ▶️ John my panasonic battery so i felt like oh this is a bad sign so i had two batteries with me and i always you know
⏹️ ▶️ John charge every night and put the fresh one in and put the other one there like i was all ready to go every time i went to the beach i had two batteries
⏹️ ▶️ John always lasted all day i don’t think i got below like maybe i won’t below fifty per cent sometimes but i
⏹️ ▶️ John was pleasantly surprised about the better life but forget about more than one day if you are actively shooting
⏹️ ▶️ John a lot of pictures the end of the day you’re going to have to change a thing and i don’t mind like that’s all i wanted i like
⏹️ ▶️ John can i do my most demanding day fine like margo was right that it’s not if you were like doing a sporting event and taking
⏹️ ▶️ John a bazillion pictures it would probably just burn through the batter completely and you’d have to be swapping the batteries but for my use
⏹️ ▶️ John having two batteries and having knowing that one can basically last through almost anything that i have done and you know
⏹️ ▶️ John i don’t mind carrying another one of the little bates cause they’re not big they’re not heavy enough battery runs out it just swap it and it’s
⏹️ ▶️ John not a big deal so i would like it to be better as with many things and i feel like there’s more room in there maybe for a battery
⏹️ ▶️ John but it wasn’t as bad as i thought it would be but it’s definitely not like your micro fort there you’re

⏹️ ▶️ Marco no i mean because yeah casson in generally the battery life is a little bit worse mine is worse than yours i’m

⏹️ ▶️ Marco hardware or the highest end hardware the highest specs that is not what professional means that
⏹️ ▶️ Marco often you know results in that but not always professional means
⏹️ ▶️ Marco that you can use it to get your job done and it’s not going to fail on you so that’s why you know
⏹️ ▶️ Marco like if you look at you know a topic that we are near dear to toasters now
⏹️ ▶️ Marco god all of the toasters that john has tested and love so much will with very degrees
⏹️ ▶️ Marco of love so much um if you actually tried to use one of those toasters in a bagel shop

⏹️ ▶️ Marco they aren’t you know they would overheat or they would have problems like they’re not made for that and if you
⏹️ ▶️ Marco look at it like a toaster that’s in like a bagel shop you have one of those like belt drive toasters those like a thousand dollars
⏹️ ▶️ Marco and you look at and you’re like that’s stupid this toaster i can get at at macy’s or whatever
⏹️ ▶️ Marco is like forty bucks and has way more features than that but that forty dollar thing will die shortly
⏹️ ▶️ Marco and you can’t do like all this toast at the same time with it and everything else and that thousand dollar really basic belt
⏹️ ▶️ Marco drive one at the bagel shop is going to work for a long time pro gear is is you know
⏹️ ▶️ Marco this is a metaphor for most truly professional gear and if you look at what what the
⏹️ ▶️ Marco mid range and high end slrs are like you know and i’m really talking about like cannon and icon here
⏹️ ▶️ Marco i don’t think anybody else is really in this game anymore canon and nikon and i think cannon owns quite a
⏹️ ▶️ Marco bit of it these are like machines that are designed to do work and never fail on
⏹️ ▶️ Marco you as much as i love my sony camera i would be surprised
⏹️ ▶️ Marco if it still works perfectly eight years from now whereas the canon
⏹️ ▶️ Marco does cause that’s a program camera the sony is a really high end feature and
⏹️ ▶️ Marco spect camera but it does not handle like a professional camera it doesn’t feel like a professional camera it
⏹️ ▶️ Marco doesn’t feel like it has the longevity and and the ruggedness and i think generally speaking i think
⏹️ ▶️ Marco people’s experiences online have backed that up where you’ll hear about like pro pro photographers who took
⏹️ ▶️ Marco a sony a seven series camera like to antarctica and fail or something like that like and you can do that
⏹️ ▶️ Marco with other cameras because they’re made for like hard use extreme conditions they’re always ready
⏹️ ▶️ Marco they’re like you know i mean you know within reason of course but like you know they’re they’re generally just more
⏹️ ▶️ Marco rugged and they they’re also just you know they’re they’re faster they have more physical buttons and yet
⏹️ ▶️ Marco they’re larger and clunkier and heavier to get you all that stuff but you know that’s all there they have dual card
⏹️ ▶️ Marco slots because you know that way you can you can have like a backup in case one card fails or whatever else there’s so many
⏹️ ▶️ Marco affordances there and if they break there’s generally better service available to
⏹️ ▶️ Marco for pro gear not always but usually and that’s that’s another area where sony has been criticized as having
⏹️ ▶️ Marco kind of shoddy service for like for pro kind of use all these merrilee cameras
⏹️ ▶️ Marco like they really don’t handle like pro cameras they they don’t have the strength and
⏹️ ▶️ Marco ruggedness and durability of pro cameras and they don’t have really like the the
⏹️ ▶️ Marco design workload of pro cameras and that that won’t change so i think and
⏹️ ▶️ Marco honestly when i do handle an essay are these days there are parts of it i do miss i miss how
⏹️ ▶️ Marco incredibly responsive they are i miss how just how fast i can snap off shots and have it be no problem
⏹️ ▶️ Marco at all and see everything i do miss a true optical viewfinder sometimes and there are certain things
⏹️ ▶️ Marco that as musing that i miss about my sony like as musing i miss things like focus peaking which i don’t think you can do at all in
⏹️ ▶️ Marco an slr because the way the system designed um things you know like there’s all sorts of things that you
⏹️ ▶️ Marco that you can that you have the luxuries with with marilu cameras that you can that you really can’t do with users but
⏹️ ▶️ Marco if i was going out like shooting an event again like like i used to do with tiff when i was when i was her
⏹️ ▶️ Marco second shooter i would pick an slr still and probably for the foreseeable future because
⏹️ ▶️ Marco they for actual pro use where every shot matters you can’t have any delays you can
⏹️ ▶️ Marco have anything fail you can’t worry about the battery i mean when we were shooting with those with the five ds you know tif and
⏹️ ▶️ Marco i shot a bunch of weddings together because she she’s a ending talk of er and we would shoot together i can’t i
⏹️ ▶️ Marco think maybe i worried about the battery level once in all that time you know i
⏹️ ▶️ Marco used to be full up the cars before before the battery would run out you just never had to think about the battery because it was so
⏹️ ▶️ Marco big and with the sony i’m thinking about the battery almost every time like almost every day shoot with the sony i have to watch that
⏹️ ▶️ Marco are level and then it got down like twenty percent go to the extra out of my pocket you know it’s it’s not
⏹️ ▶️ Marco a professional piece of equipment it produces very incredible photos but it is not pro
⏹️ ▶️ Marco gear and solar’s not all of them are but many slrs are pro quality gear and that difference i think will
⏹️ ▶️ Marco always be there just because of the the market realities and the physical realities the others two market

⏹️ ▶️ John really really slowly changed and there was a time when no professional photographer use digital and
⏹️ ▶️ John now almost all of them do unless they’re a real artsy fartsy um it just so happened they stayed in the same form
⏹️ ▶️ John factor that dslr at that point and there’s a lot of you know
⏹️ ▶️ John not baggage but history there it’s it’s you know even if it was universally better it would take a long time as people have
⏹️ ▶️ John tons of lenses and they’re used to the cameras they like and is established people for you know know how to fix them and they are
⏹️ ▶️ John kind of familiar with the machines and the way they work but there are still advantages
⏹️ ▶️ John to merely in terms of like a continuous auto focus of a moving target that
⏹️ ▶️ John you could you know never do manually focusing and that the dslr is not fast enough to catch for very very fast motion
⏹️ ▶️ John for things like sports photography um and of course all the size advantages and all the other
⏹️ ▶️ John things i’m not saying it’s inevitable but i feel like the main thing keeping d slr
⏹️ ▶️ John is dominant now is because man like the inertia that manufacturers are making there’s
⏹️ ▶️ John no reason you couldn’t make a professional murals camera just what happens no one is doing that because the market is in dslrs
⏹️ ▶️ John and they’re really good and the advantages having shift over enough but i feel like this is a slow migration
⏹️ ▶️ John that gradually over time like sony’s kind of doing it first to the meris camera’s like oh this is a great way
⏹️ ▶️ John for consumers to get a camera that has a little bit bigger sensor ah but you know that we know consumers don’t want to buy
⏹️ ▶️ John an slr because they’re really big so this is a great advantage for them and sonny was like you know we can make even better
⏹️ ▶️ John camera like that maybe we can make a full frame one and maybe we can make good enough that professionals might notice and all
⏹️ ▶️ John things margot said about them not being suitable for the job are still true but you know they’re creeping

⏹️ ▶️ John there wasn’t a thing that even existed and now you know sonny’s probably the wrong company to do it but like all it’s going to take

⏹️ ▶️ Marco when we first launched the game on the mac the frame rate was terrible so like all right maybe i need to update the video driver

⏹️ ▶️ Marco reinstall the tools you know get try to fix a stupid frame rate issue finally we get it we

⏹️ ▶️ Marco updates so we’re already like two hours in now all this stupid updating and rebooting and
⏹️ ▶️ Tiff Arment we only have so much time right because we have a child who goes to sleep and once he goes to sleep we only have so much

⏹️ ▶️ John to repair and it would never succeed and it would be like oh well right so what i had to do was install without
⏹️ ▶️ John the drivers then do apple’s little boot camp driver installation but stop it as soon as
⏹️ ▶️ John sound works because it makes a sound when it installs the driver and i had to
⏹️ ▶️ John kill the driver installation and then install like i had three things i had had windows
⏹️ ▶️ John itself i had the the ati drivers from the radion drivers
⏹️ ▶️ John like third party drivers from the radion site four boot camps specifically so amd says these are the ones
⏹️ ▶️ John used for boot camp for this video card right and then i have the apple drivers and the combination of three of them as i had to do
⏹️ ▶️ John them in a certain order and i had to kill the apple one as soon as sound worked and that is the set up that worked for me
⏹️ ▶️ John that was like an hour’s worth of fusing there so it’s never easy and i think it’s easy but i figured it was because
⏹️ ▶️ John my computer is ancient and like it would be easier on a modern computer
